Ash recently worked with us to create a series of truly delightful cocktails, bringing out the best in La Fée Absinth Bohemian & NV Absinthe Verte.  Using a diverse range of ingredients to compliment the bold flavours, these cocktails hugely impressed when we tasted them at the Sahara Bar.

Celebrating the first anniversary of the repeal of France's 1915 Absinthe Ban PDF Print E-mail

Today is the 1st anniversary of the lifting of the 1915 French Absinthe ban. As one of the oldest absinthe-drinking guinea pigs alive today (having regularly drunk La Fée since returning distilling to France in May 2000) I am happy to report being in better shape than this guy...

'The Alarming Effects of Absinthe on Guinea Pigs

Image taken from the book 'Discours D'un Capitaine A Ses Soldats', by Captain Jacob of the 109th Infantry, warning his Gallic troops to the evils of absinthe.

...As we now know, this experiment (injecting Guinea Pigs with 'Absinthe extract') was rather unfair on the unfortunate test subjects - Absinthe has since been proved to be as harmless (when consumed in moderation, of course) as the next distilled spirit. So this weekend we at La Fée will raise a glass to everyone who has been enjoying the green fairy since our revival of this wonderous spirit more than a decade ago.

Santé - Cheers

George Rowley
Founder of La Fée Absinthe

"Be not inhospitable to strangers - Lest they be angels in disguise"

George Whitman, 12.12.1913 - 14.12.2011

The death of the owner of the Shakespeare & Co bookstore in Paris, has brought back memories of my time in Paris back in 1992, which lead indirectly to the start of La Fée Absinthe.  I had arrived in Paris in early January 1992 and had two weeks to find an appartment and a job before having to return to the UK.  Wandering around the left bank one day, I came across the Shakespeare & Co. book shop...

In 1998 the first laboratory tests linking thujone to absinthe were performed.  Drafted by George Rowley, using the EEC Directive [88/388/EEC 442 & 443], the tests were carried out at the EU approved University of Prague VSCHT Chemical & Technical department.    Rowley had to import rare chemical compounds from the USA - including thujone itself, as the laboratories contacted in Europe were lacking these key compounds.  Signed and stamped by UK trading standards; this set the precedent for absinthe in Europe and beyond.  This document has been censored.
