Prague Club Culture

Prague is probably the only place in the world where one moment you can be clubbing in a crumbling underground ex-cinema, and the next you could be sipping a flaming La Fée Absinth Bohemian in a Romanesque stone cellar.

The gothic heart of this city hasn't changed much since the medieval era, and the clubbing sub-culture is the best way to experience the antique city.

But get ready for cramped and smoky downtown club spaces, because clubbing here in this ancient capital has literally had to go underground. Prague is full of spooky subterranean spaces — the original town was buried in the 12th century and the current one was built on top of it to provide a high-water haven when the Vltava River floods.

Suspicion of clubbers is still high, which leads to imaginative promoters being very creative with their spaces. It's not unusual to see out-of-business factories that open and close as clubs every summer.
