La Fée with the BRIT Awards 2007 and competition winners!

This year La Fée were proud to be involved in the 2007 Brit Awards, in association with MasterCard.

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Oasis, Lily Allen, The Killers, Jarvis Cocker, and Russel Brand were just a few of the celebrities in attendance and all celebs received a goodie bag of which La Fée Parsienne was one of the items.

We ran an exclusive competition for all La Fée newsletter subscribers with the chance of winning a La Fée goodie bag – the question was 'Who hosted this years Brit awards?' the correct answer was Russell Brand — thank you for your emails and congratulations to Sarah S (who is just about to celebrate her 40th Birthday, so congratulations from all of us) and Anthony G — a goodie bag is on its way.

The night began with a performance from the Scissor Sisters, but it was of course Oasis who stole the show, performing Cigarettes and Alcohol, Morning Glory, Don't Look Back In Anger, Rock 'n' Roll Star and The Meaning of Soul, after collecting their Lifetime Achievement Award, from Beatles legend Ringo Starr. However, it won’t be the band keeping the award, as Noel admitted ‘we actually make a rule of not keeping any awards we have, because we only get one trophy and there are 5 of us, we give our award to someone else’.

Silver of the Stars - A drink with friends...

An absinthe goblet, designed by silversmith Graham Stewart for fashion designer Alexander McQueen...

An absinthe goblet designed by Graham Stewart was among a number of displays unveiled on Friday in Edinburgh, designed to celebrate the 550th anniversary of the Incorporation of Goldsmiths in to the City. Ten of Scotland’s finest artists were asked to collaborate with the most talented silversmiths of the country on the theme of ‘a drink with a friend’. Celebrities included that of Sir Sean Connery, Ewan McGregor, Ian Rankin, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, Alexander McQueen, Billy Connolly, Sharleen Spiteri and Robbie Coltrane.

Displays comprised of, for Ian Rankin, a silver, lined-with-gold tumbler in which to drink Irn-Bru out of, a silver and gold quaich for Sir Sean Connery and an absinthe goblet, described as ‘overflowing with decadence’ for fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

The National Museum of Scotland will entertain the exhibition after its tour of New York, St Petersburg, Kyoto and Beijing, before returning in 2008. The £1m show is open to the public on January 31st next year, at the Victoria and Albert museum in London. More

Lust for Life - New Absinthe Movie

Lust For Life with Kirk Douglas as Van Gough and Anthony Quinn as Gaugin contain many scenes of absinthe drinking, and was kindly brought to our attention by Mark B Church.

Vincent Van Gogh is the archetypical tortured artistic genius. His obsession with painting, combined with mental illness, propels him through an unhappy life full of failures and unrewarding relationships. He fails at being a preacher to coal miners. He fails in his relationships with women. He earns some respect among his fellow painters, especially Paul Gauguin, but he does not get along with them. He only manages to sell one painting in his lifetime. The one constant good in his life is his brother Theo, who is unwavering in his moral and financial support. More

Phil Baker Absinthe Book Reading

Around 100 people turned up for Phil Baker's reading from his recently penned Dedalus Book of Absinthe.

Of course La Fée Absinthe were only too happy to help when he asked if we would be able to help out with the refreshments. After all, it seemed only fair that while Phil explained Oscar Wilde's definition of the three stages of absinthe drinking that we made sure that the visitors were at least entering stage one:

'After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally you see things as they really are, and that is the most horrible thing in the world.'

The guests heard many excerpts from the book recounting the lives and drinking habits of Oscar Wilde and Ernest 'Kit' Dowson. However, there wasn't enough time to cover the fact that the book discusses the rituals and modus operandi of absinthe drinking. It also explains the pharmacology of how real absinthe works on your central nervous system.

But the thing the Dedalus Book of Absinthe does that other books on absinthe perhaps don't, is that it presents an assessment of the various brands available today. It exposes the fakes and explains how real absinthe has become available again in the UK.
